Affordable online degrees with Queen Margaret University

Studying online is a more affordable route into higher education for many. QMU has online master’s degrees, postgraduate diplomas (PGDip), and postgraduate certificates (PGCert) that are open to students from across the United Kingdom and beyond - enabling you to partake in postgraduate study with us without needing to relocate.
Our flexible online degrees are taught part-time, so you can build on knowledge acquired during your bachelor’s degree whilst continuing to work full-time and earn an income.
Online degrees are ideal for international students, too. You can boost your CV with a qualification from a reputable UK university without the costs associated with moving to a new country. Check the individual course pages for information on entry and IELTS requirements.
How do online and on-campus degree programmes vary in cost?
The cost of online and on-campus postgraduate courses at QMU don’t vary much, as the quality of teaching and knowledge exchange all students experience is of the utmost quality no matter how you study with us.
The difference in cost for studying online or on-campus largely comes from the price and lifestyle of the student experience. On-campus students will likely pay any associated costs of travelling to an open day before enrolling, and may have relocation costs if they don’t live near the university. On-campus students also have the cost of living to consider, plus any social events they want to attend at the students’ union during their time with us.
The experience of the academic year is different for online study students. While you will have the cost of living to take into account, studying part-time from home means your current incomings and outgoings will likely be around the same as pre-registration, tuition fees aside.
Can I pay my tuition fees in instalments?
Yes you can. Fees for our online master’s degrees can be paid in a maximum of six instalments of £2,174 spread across a two-year period.
Is Student finance available?
Yes it is. Higher education loans may be an option for students in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the USA. For further information on the application process and requirements in each country, visit our postgraduate loans page.
Are scholarships and grants available?
Yes. There are a range of options for financial assistance with QMU:
-
The Young International Arbitration Group (YIAG) bursary is a 10% fee reduction for students who are studying our International Dispute Resolution LLM and are a member of the group
-
Earn rewards with our refer a friend scheme
-
QMU alumni are eligible for a 10% discount on tuition fees
Learn more about these options on our financial assistance page.
Can my employer fund my studies?
Employer sponsorship depends on your organisation’s individual policy. Many workplaces want to know what you’ll learn and how it applies to your current role. Employers may also want to rule out the possibility of less expensive short courses before committing to master’s degree funding.
Certain subject areas, such as social sciences subjects, business management or healthcare management, may be more likely to gain employer funding to build on knowledge obtained during your BSc or BA (Hons) for internal career progression.
Different businesses may also have different policies based on funding for postgraduate research courses or postgraduate taught courses.
Ask your manager about your company’s policy of sponsoring further study.
Tips for managing your budget as a student
Before your degree start date, make sure you have a clear idea of how much money you have coming in and how much is going out over the duration of your degree. While this may change due to certain circumstances, it’s good to have a starting point and an understanding of how much disposable income you have.
Studying online part-time frees up time to continue working. Whether that’s a full-time job, placements, or internships, you have the opportunity to fit your studies around employment.
